SpaceX explains why US Space Force is paying more for single launch | world first 6G sat from China
In a panel discussion at the virtual World Satellite Business Week conference presented by Euroconsult on 9th November, SpaceX President and Chief Operating Officer(COO) Gwynne Shotwell explained that the contract pays for launch services but also covers expenses for infrastructure and other items required for national security launches. Shotwell also said, “The launch was not that expensive. The price reflects mostly the infrastructure. This one was front loaded because the Space Force wanted this capability deployed quickly.” The $316 million agreement was first awarded to SpaceX (on 7th August) under the National Security Space Launch Phase 2 launch service obtainment, to launch a National Reconnaissance Office(NRO) satellite in business year 2022
